Wani is the new coffee shop on the Left Bank, a stone's throw from Le Bon Marché. Headed by Sugio Yamaguchi, the former virtuoso of the Botanique restaurant, he aims to offer us simple, healthy, finely-crafted products.

Coffee shops are on a roll, and every week brings a new arrival in Paris. Among them, a few gems stand out, such as Wani, which opened its doors on rue Saint-Placide in the 6th arrondissement. We're off to the Bon Marché to discover this nugget, which we've been told is well worth the detour.

Here we find Sugio Yamaguchi, the Japanese chef who delighted our taste buds for several years at Botanique. Wanting to expand his business as a Chef Consultant, he found what he considered to be rather spacious premises. After some thought, he decided to exploit his free space by opening a coffee shop, and Wani was born.

A great lover of coffee, he offers specialty coffees, hot chocolate made with Nicolas Berger chocolate and Japanese teas made to the highest standards. A special mention goes to the Genmaicha latte, a real pleasure to savour. Matcha, sencha and hojitcha lovers will be delighted. At Wani, everything is organic, from the vegetables to the teas, not forgetting the homemade organic plant milk made from cashews, almonds, sesame and dates.

In addition to your skilfully prepared petit noir, cappuccino or flat white, the house offers a bevy of sweet and savoury dishes that change with the seasons and the mood. During our visit, we were tempted by the incredible vegetable tart, the chef's signature dish that evolves according to the vegetables in season. Since we're in winter, the tart honors root vegetables such as carrots, turnips and sweet potatoes. Both crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth, this creation is topped with herb pesto, kumquat slices and a condiment of vegetable scraps. All we can say is that a tart like this makes us want to eat vegetables every day.

Our daily discoveries also included a cow's tome tartine generously topped with slices of truffle straight from the Vaucluse, a real comforting treat. On the sweet side, the apple and hazelnut tart is a real treat, as is the cake with the powerful aroma of grated bergamot.

The Wani coffee shop has less than a dozen places, so they are rare. That said, everything is designed to be taken away. What's more, we also tried the rice-based chirashi topped with a variety of vegetable salads, which could only be taken to go, a great discovery for a maximum of flavor.

Count €11 for the generous vegetable tart, €18 for the truffle tartine (which may sound expensive, but is actually quite affordable given the price of fresh truffles) or the 10-vegetable chirashi. Hot drinks range from 4€ to 7€. This address is for people looking for places to eat healthy, digestible, homemade, plant-based and ORGANIC food. Sugio Yamaguchi offers only what he likes to eat, with his own sensibility and taste. At Wani, everything is sourced and the organic vegetables come from the Ferme des Près Neuf, from Erwan Humbert, a passionate market gardener in Essonne. In short, if you want to spend a poetic moment while doing yourself good, this is the place to go!
