On the Saclay Plateau, you wouldn't necessarily expect to see a vineyard sprouting among the fields. And yet. In Vauhallan, within the Essonne (91), the Vineyard of Vauhallan offers a surprisingly authentic and charming escape from the ordinary.
Situated on the lands of the Vauhallan Abbey, the vineyard is reviving a medieval tradition: centuries ago, monks cultivated these very slopes. Today, the Racines du Temple vineyard is breathing new life into this heritage through a community-driven project rooted in the local landscape. This wine revival is restoring richness and character to a heritage that had long lay fallow.
The guided tour takes visitors through the key moments of this revival: the reintroduction of vines on these farmland plots, the careful tending of the grapevines, and the strong local roots. We stroll between the rows, listen, observe — and uncover a true sanctuary of tranquility nestled in the heart of the Saclay Plateau.
Finally, the wine tasting at the vineyard offers a chance to savor the fruits of the harvest, exploring its aromas and unique character. To keep the experience going, guests can also purchase bottles directly from the vineyard.
Registration is required and the tour is offered exclusively in French. Four sessions are scheduled, all from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM: Saturday, March 28, 2026; Saturday, April 11, 2026; Wednesday, May 20, 2026; and Saturday, June 20, 2026. The standard fee is set at €15.
A charming local getaway, offering a taste of history, regional flavor, and conviviality right in the heart of the Saclay Plateau.
