A Thai restaurant but street-food style that is fun and trendy? We rush to Bastille to discover Street Bangkok Canteen & Bar, this new address smells spices, tender meats and cocktails that shake up taste buds.

We’ve already presented you Street Bangkok near Canal Saint-Martin, we now go to the lively Bastille neighborhood for a new underground address. Say goodbye to the “boho” and light 10th arrondissement version, at Street Bangkok Canteen & Bar in rue de la Roquette, we enter the expansive world of the streets of Bangkok by night.

Faithful to the first address, Street architect Damien Brambilla kept the industrial, trendy aspect of the scaffoldings that we can see all along the restaurant. Muted lights, neon lights shaped like dragons, hanging bottles and rock music set the scene of this new version that is more fun than the previous one.

In this restaurant, everything that made the success of the first address has been kept including the delicious ultra-tender grilled chicken skewers served with coconut milk and tamarind, topped by its homemade satay sauce. 2 new recipes are concocted by Ja Euarchukiati (who worked at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok) and Taku Sekine (Dersou chef elected best table of the year by Le Fooding): ribs with mango barbecue sauce and the cumin lamb with homemade curry sauce.

At Street Bangkok we don’t count how much time is spent in the kitchen. Everything is homemade. It’s about serving street food – but high gastronomy style – in a basket. Meats are marinated for long hours and cooked at low temperature, sous vide. The outcome? Very tender meats that melt in the mouth. To this, add the sauces perfectly spices up and here you are in heaven

How does it work though? We chose the package: the What Pho, a hot and cold mix. The basket is divided into two sections: one for the rice and one for the “salad”. You can choose between the fresh papaya salad for the informed foodies, the beef salad with crispy rice, the crispy rice with herbs and pulled pork sausages or the duck spring roll style.

Let’s speak about the Sukhumvit package that features a hot dish with rice. Chicken skewer, soft ribs, veggie curry or the stewed pork knuckle are among the possibilities. The Chatuchak package – as you may have guessed it – features salad, dish and rice. A bit of everything for even more pleasure.

Among the novelties of this new address, we find drafts, original drinks especially created by the Tiplings Brothers for the Street. And when No.1 American cocktails gets down to it, they rock. On the menu, 4 fizzy alcoholic drinks with Asian hints. Everything is homemade (except the alcohol obviously): syrup, bubbles and fresh ingredients create delicious blends to be discovered with your friends.

Go for the “Thé Noir” [Black Tea] based on Gin-black tea-passion and Sichuan pepper, the “Curcuma” [turmeric] based on white rum-turmeric-masala curry and roasted pineapple, the “Citronelle” [Lemongrass] based on Cognac-lemongrass-cilantro and ginger or the “Yuzu” that wakes you up with Shochu infusion and Chinese green tea-wild honey and yuzu.

We don’t forget to end the meal with a Thai dessert of course. Mango and sticky rice with coconut, banana and tapioca (delicious) or just fresh fruits, it’s up to you.
