Auguste is the name of BléNoir's latest crêperie in Paris' Beaubourg district. Just a stone's throw from the Centre Pompidou and the Stravinsky fountain, we're off to feast on delicious galettes and crêpes in a beautiful, modern and trendy setting.

I love galettes, but do you know how? When it's well made with butter inside! And that's just as well, because it's the case at d'Auguste, the latest modern crêperie opened by BléNoir last September, following the opening of Hippolyte just a year ago in the 9th arrondissement.

Just a stone's throw from the Centre Pompidou in the Beaubourg and Halles districts, this crêperie is located on a charming pedestrian street called Saint-Martin. The restaurant's name is a tribute to the wooden halles built by Philippe Auguste (King of France) in 1183.

At BléNoir Auguste, we've moved away from the traditional Breton crêperie atmosphere to a modern take on the 50s, to give you the impression that you're eating in a real restaurant rather than just a crêperie. A refined ambience with an arty touch, designer lighting, cosy leather seats and velvet armchairs, a large central bar, a marble and gold table and wood on the floor and walls create a warm, trendy whole.

On the plate, you'll find recipes finely honed over time and made with fresh, quality, local and organic produce. At Auguste, everything is homemade.

While we were there, we tried the rolls, rolled and toasted like an aperitif, with a choice of chorizo or salmon - a real delight. Accompanied by a fine cider from the rigorously selected menu and a farmhouse apple juice, we're on top form.

For my part, I chose theEpinard d'Olive with coppa made from Emmenthal cheese and creamed spinach, while my sidekick was tempted by an original pizza-style galette with cheese, ham and olives, but on a buckwheat pancake base. Crisp and tasty, they were gobbled up without batting an eyelid.

There's no creperie without dessert crepes, so I choose the pretty chocolate, banana and poached pear duo, while my more sensible friend opts for the dark chocolate plus and grated coconut on a buckwheat base. With its melt-in-the-mouth pear and good chocolate, the crepe remains light.

All in all, a lovely, well-located crêperie and a gourmet meal that doesn't leave you with a heavy stomach.
