Today, we are not introducing another and new spot, but a lovely restaurant that managed to change in the best way possible over the course of the years and the past decade. Inaugurated in 2013 at the corner of rues d’Uzès and Montmartre, the Circonstances restaurant has started to serve this Fall a new dinner offer based on small dishes to share, a way to discovery multiple flavors.
And there are many flavors in Circonstances’ dishes! In the kitchen, chef Franck Dervin – who trained with Guy Savoy – and in the dining room, his wide, Karin Dervin, a dream team with a character as strong and delightful as their dishes are very, very naughty. You get it, here is all about sharing and conviviality.
On the menu then, many dishes to share with a nice emphasis put on quality meats and pork: crunchy pig’s trotter patty and celeriac in remoulade dressing (€11), slightly salted ham hock, salsa verde and fregola sarda risotto style (€9), broiled pudding, spinach sprouts and vinaigrette (€9), everything has its use in pork.
These dishes – the boss recommending to order 3 or 4 per patron – are served along with more sophisticated and heartier dishes such as this beef stew and roasted wild shrimps (€20) or this butterfly roasted wild duck (€29).
As for us, we went for the delicious roasted quail breasts (served cut, please!; €19) and served with baby girolles, because this is the season. And to feel less guilty, we went for a bit of greenery with delicious fried baby artichokes to dip in spicy mayonnaise (€7) and sweet potato and ginger fritters with homemade tahini (€10).
Two cocktails later, the Palawan (cachaça, kalamansi juice; €9), and the gin tonic Republica (gin, lime, wild Madagascan pepper, tonic; €9), here we are, ready to tackle rather traditional desserts. So, are you more into chocolate mousse or lemon pie? We eventually went for the caramel cream with lime zests (€8) and the rum baba with light whipped cream (€9) we gladly soaked in rum as the bottle was served to our table to pour to taste.
Sticking to a sustainable and seasonal approach, committing in shining a light on the best of local producers, the Circonstances restaurant proved they joined in by offering food pleasing more and more foodies: dishes to share but enabling all folies.
