He lost an eye, his family, his planet, his love of life, his friends… After terrible battles, a depression, and a fight with Thanos – the god of thunder – Thor has decided to take some time to himself. The Marvel hero is back for a fourth solo movie: Thor: Love and Thunder, directed and co-written by Taika Waititi.
Marvel dropped the trailer of this crazy opus, with rock music in the background. The movie is to open from July 13, 2022, in France (and July 8, in the U.S.).

Therefore, Chris Hemsworth reprised his role as the warrior god. Sport, meditation, love story, friend time: Thor has decided to take control of his life again. The path to happiness and love full of pitfalls… For conflicts and war seem to run after our hero.
Although the trailer does not show much of the story, Thor: Love and Thunder unveils at least the main characters and the mood of the movie. Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) and Tessa Thomspon (Valkyrie) also reprised their roles, so did the entire team of Guardians of the Galaxy. No picture yet of Christan Bale and his character, Gorr, the evil character in this story. But, discover an intriguing shot of Jane Foster waving Thor’s magical hammer Mjolnir around, without weakening…
Thor (Hemsworth) starts a journey different from all the others he experienced until then: a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is stopped by a galactic killed known as Gorr, the butcher of gods (Christian Bale), who tries to slaughter all the gods. To fight the threat, Thor ask the help of Valkyrie (Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Portman) who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably can handle his magic hammer Mjolnir. Together, they go on a striking cosmic adventure to discover the mystery of the Butcher God’s vendetta and stop him before it is too late.
First of all, we must say: Thor is the first Marvel saga superhero to have his fourth solo movie. But is it a good one?
Thor: Love and Thunder is a fun movie, well-paced, with rousing soundtrack. A movie not taking itself too seriously and very into absurd humor, with Thor who can sound very silly. Taika Waititi keeps on busting the clichés of the super muscular hero to give his character some interesting depth.
Thor is more human, weakened by the challenges from his previous adventures. He seeks a new purpose and is very touching, although the movie keeps on hiding this sensibility behind walls made of jokes. The story's antagonist is interesting too with understandable motivations, justified, although his actions are highly reprehensible. We love the design and threatening aura reminding us of our childhood's bogeyman.
Although humor is always in the background, it does not harm the action scenes that are still very epic and beautifully staged for the photography.
We highly appreciate the new universes Marvel seems to go to. Without dropping any spoiler, we would simply say the universe widens and characters and possibilities are appealing...
Another good point: you do not need to have seen the new series and latest Marvel movies to understand this opus. Thor: Love and Thunder continues the story right after the events from Endgame.
