Marc Riboud and his camera have traveled Europe and the Orient, keeping a long-lasting record of all their travels. The photographer has decided to bequeath all his works to the Musée des Arts Asiatiques Guimet, devoting him his first retrospective. The “Histoires possibles” [Possible Stories] exhibition returns on the photographer’s career and life from May 19 to September 6, 2021.
Relentless and humanist observatory, Marc Riboud has observed his peers with a lot of love and in a raw fashion. Marc Riboud has crossed the 20th century, including conflicts and dramatic events with his camera in hand. He leaves us with hundreds of magnificent, strong pictures, telling about the major moments and little details of modern history.
The French artist has worked for the Magnum agency, and has traveled to Asia a lot. Even though he attended serious and major events, he keeps for the human being quite a tenderness. This hope for humanity shows in his work: Marc Riboud often puts the people he meets in the heart of his pictures.
In his black and white pictures, the artist plays with perspectives, looks for the harmony of symmetry or the strength of chaotic layouts. All his works are to be discovered for our greatest joy in one giant exhibition, gathered for the first time for a grand retrospective devoted to Marc Riboud. Will you join him in his travels?
