Opened in January 2015, the Philharmonie de Paris is the capital's music lover's den. With its large concert halls, symphony halls and music museum, the Philharmonie de Paris arouses the curiosity of many. In the space of four years, the venue has attracted 5 million visitors, many of them families, attracted by the early-learning music workshops on offer!
In view of this success, Laurent Bayle, the Philharmonie's director, decided to dedicate an area to children in 2017: this became the Children's Philharmonie. Since then, this educational space dedicated to 4-10 year-olds has offered the youngest visitors the chance to discover what goes behind the scenes of music, and how instruments work... Through self-guided tours, guided tours or musical workshops.
The scenography was designed by Constance Guisset, who found the inspiration to help children understand the mechanics of sound, appreciate opera and discover world music: a colorful universe where you can touch everything.
Change of venue, change of scenery. Here, Constance Guisset has deconstructed musical instruments to understand how trumpets, guitars and tambourines work. You have to sit on giant pistons to operate the trumpet and understand how it works. The playful approach is reminiscent of the nearby Cité des Sciences. Except for one detail: this is the Philharmonie, and everything here revolves around music.
In another room, we're treated to opera arias in a very special hairdressing salon. Put on a rocker's helmet, and let's go for three rock-style nursery rhymes: frère Jacques, Ah! vous dirai-je, maman... Then it's off to a room where you can become an orchestra conductor. It's a real thrill to be in front of these cardboard instruments!
All in all, some thirty playful installations are set up along a route dotted with visual and aural curiosities, both funny and poetic. We particularly liked the pitch-pong, where you have to control your voice to make a virtual ball bounce. Our advice: bring the whole family, including your children, nephews and nieces!
The Children's Philharmonic is open all week except Mondays, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 12.45pm and from 1.30pm to 5.30pm during school terms, and on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm. The venue is also open on Mondays, but only during zone C school vacations. The Children's Philharmonic is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Full price: €15 per person; reduced price: €12; tribe offer: three people or more. To get to the Philharmonie des Enfants, take metro line 5 (Porte de Pantin stop), line 7 (Porte de la Villette stop) or tramway T3b (Porte de Pantin stop).
