On July 14, France marks its national holiday, commemorating in particular the storming of the Bastille in 1789. Across the country, the festivities revolve around iconic traditions: the défilé militaire on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the bals populaires held in towns and villages, open-air concerts, and the traditional feux d'artifice that light up the night sky.
