The firefighters’ ball, a genuine tradition of the National Day, traces its roots to 1937 in Montmartre. After returning from the military parade, the firefighters of the Butte invited spectators who had been following them to tour their firehouse, with authorization from their superior. An undeniable success, it caught on with other stations in the capital and then across the country.
But before it became the firefighters' ball we know today, the event offered sports activities and other physical workouts, until the day visitors began dancing and drinking. Today, people still drink (in moderation) and dance!
As part of the Fête Nationale 2026 festivities, the city of Créteil in the Val-de-Marne is staging its now-famous Firefighters' Ball, on 13 July 2026. Music and dance enthusiasts are set to convene at the Créteil Emergency Centre, located on Rue de l'Orme Saint-Siméon, to dance the night away!
The traditional firefighters’ ball, headlined by a DJ, will be held on Monday, July 13, starting at 9 p.m. Access to the fire station is via Rue de l’Orme Saint-Siméon.
