This year's event takes you to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse in the Yvelines, home to the studio house of Greek sculptor Philolaos. This original stopover on the 2025 European Heritage Days itinerary will be open to visitors during this cultural weekend. Having arrived in France in 1950, Philolaos himself designed and built this space as early as 1964, with the help of a mason friend. Built on a long, steeply sloping site, bordered on the north by a small acacia forest, the house blends into the rolling landscape of the Chevreuse Valley. Inside, every detail surprises: from walls whitewashed in the pure Greek tradition, to furniture shaped like sculptures, to everyday objects transformed into works of art, to niches sublimating sculptures... everything reflects Philolaos' total creativity. Just a stone's throw from the homes of other famous figures such as André Wogenscky and Marta Pan, and not far from the landmarks of artists like Fernand Léger and Guy-Rachel Grataloup, this home-workshop embodies a singular modernity, imbued with a deep respect for nature and organic lines.
MAISON ATELIER PHILOLAOS
Philolaos, a Greek sculptor who settled in France in 1950, designed and built his own studio where he creates monumental sculptures and models, tableaux-reliefs, furniture and objects in steel, iron, wood, marble and terracotta.
From architecture to the smallest everyday object, the studio is a whole, a conception of total art, an absolute emanation of the artist's personality.
