Marta Pan and André Wogensky Foundation
Just a few kilometers from Paris, the great project of this twentieth-century artist and architect couple was born. Marta Pan, sculptor, and André Wogenscky, architect. She rubbed shoulders with Maurice Béjart, Constantin Brancusi, Fernand Léger and Étienne Hajdu, who worked with and directed Le Corbusier's studio.
The couple chose to settle in the Vallée de Chevreuse in 1952, to live and express their respective creative energies away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the world. This intimate setting, reflecting their intellectual and artistic complicity, became the Fondation d'utilité publique Marta Pan - André Wogenscky in 2011. The 7,000 m² park features some twenty sculptures by Marta Pan. The house is open to the surrounding nature, the source of their shared inspiration.
Marta sculpts wood, marble and melts steel, while André imagines living, working and leisure spaces with audacity and innovation. What would the work of one have been without the other? What would Marta's Cercle Carré be without André's clean lines? So much evidence of their creative complicity that it has become one of the most recognized cross-works.
Today, the Marta Pan - André Wogenscky Foundation is more than a conservatory for the modern couple's work. It is a place of research, archives, publishing and inspiration. It also works closely with contemporary artists, inviting visual artists, choreographers, architects and art and architecture historians to reflect on the work of these two great artistic personalities.
