Due to a fresh episode of ozone pollution, residential parking is free in Paris this Friday, July 10, 2026. According to the City of Paris, Airparif expects the information-and-recommendation threshold for ozone concentration to be exceeded on that day.
In line with the measures announced by the Paris authorities in the event of an air pollution peak, the City of Paris has decided to make residential parking free for Friday, July 10, 2026. The aim is to encourage residents to curb their car use and to favor public transport, carpooling, cycling, or walking.
This free service comes as authorities urge people to cut back on car trips, to work from home where possible, and to prioritise the least-polluting modes of transport.
This free parking applies only to residential parking. It applies on the mixed-use streets in the four zones surrounding the home of the motorist who benefits from Parisian residential parking.
The City of Paris also states that if a pollution peak is declared after you subscribe to a weekly pass, the pass’s validity is extended by the number of free days officially announced.
Authorities are urging a reduction in private car use, to prioritise public transport, carpooling, and cycling, and, where possible, remote work.
Motorists must also adhere to the newly reduced speed limits in Île-de-France:
The free residential parking is one of the measures activated during air-pollution episodes. It aims to encourage residents to leave their cars parked and to switch to less polluting modes of transport.
The information and advisory procedure is activated when pollutant levels exceed thresholds that could affect health, particularly for people who are sensitive or vulnerable.
This measure is part of a broader spell of ozone pollution affecting Île-de-France, during which the Police Prefecture is urging people to cut back on road travel and to favour the least polluting modes of transport.
