School holidays and public holidays: see the calendar dates for 2026-2027, broken down by zone

As 2025 draws to a close, here’s the school holiday calendar for 2026-2027. After a two-week Christmas break, students will head back to school on Monday, January 5, 2026. They can then look forward to winter holidays, which will begin on February 7 for Zone A, February 14 for Zone B, and February 21 for Zone C.

When are the winter and spring holidays scheduled? When does the school year end? And on which day are students expected to return? Find out now the 2026-2027 school holiday calendar, according to an official decree published in the Official Journal.

After a two-week Christmas break, classes for all students will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026. As for the winter holidays 2026, they will start on February 7 for Zone A, February 14 for Zone B, and February 21 for Zone C. What about the spring holidays in 2026? Students in Zone A will be the first to go on break, followed by those in Zone B, and finally Zone C. Summer holidays are set to begin on July 4, 2026, with the return to school scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Vacations start on the days indicated, after school. For students who do not have classes on Saturdays, vacations begin on Fridays after school. Classes resume on the mornings of the days indicated.

The three zones A, B and C are recalled:

  • Zone A: including the regions of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon, and Poitiers.
  • Zone B: covering Aquitaine, Amiens, Caen, Lille, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Nice, Orléans-Tours, Reims, Rennes, Rouen, and Strasbourg.
  • Zone C: comprising Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, and Versailles.

As for the school year's public holidays and long weekends in 2026-2027, May 2026 looks promising for many. The long weekends will start with May 1st and May 8th, offering a full three-day break! National Day will fall on a Tuesday, providing a perfect opportunity for those who can take Monday off to enjoy an extended weekend. On the other hand, Assumption Day (August 15) and All Saints’ Day (November 1) will land on a Saturday and a Sunday, respectively.
