Metro, RER, Transilien: which lines should you avoid this weekend, October 17–18?

Transports in Île-de-France call for caution this weekend of October 17-18, 2026, as a protest against the cost of living is announced for Saturday, works on several lines get underway, and the first Toussaint departures begin.

Transport in Paris and in the Île-de-France region is once again expected to be capricious this weekend. On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026, works will cut sections of the RER and Transilien, Metro Line 6 will be closed all day Sunday, and a mobilization against the cost of living is planned for Saturday, the day of the main departures for the holidays.

Outages extend far beyond Paris. They are hitting Essonne, Val-de-Marne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Val-d'Oise and Seine-Saint-Denis.

Good news compared with last weekend: the RER C and the RER E are once again running through Paris during the day. The bottleneck shifts to the southern end of the RER C, around Orly, and to Transilien lines N and P. Before you head out, a quick check with Île-de-France Mobilités, the RATP or Transilien SNCF remains the best move.

Saturday, October 17 strike: will the metro and RER be disrupted?

As of today, no strike notice has been announced for Saturday at either RATP or SNCF. SNCF Voyageurs told our editors that no disruptions are planned on its side. Traffic will therefore largely depend on the scheduled works, detailed below.

The day, nevertheless, remains one to watch. Launched on social networks by groups claiming the Yellow Vests movement, the October 17 mobilization is initially aimed at the surge in fuel prices. Demands have broadened to wages, public services, and purchasing power, and the CGT has issued a call to take part. High school students, who have been in the streets since the start of the new term, have also mentioned this date, though there has been no official appeal from their organizations.

As of October 13, no protest had been registered in Paris. Any potential route will be published on the Préfecture de police website. Beware of routes circulating on social media: none have any official status.

The real risk lies in last-minute station closures. During the October 13 protest, the prefecture shut down eight metro stations, often without warning. On Saturday, a quick check of the Bonjour RATP traffic info right before you head out can save you from waiting on the platform. All we know about that day is gathered in our piece on the October 17 strike.

On the aviation front, holidaymakers can breathe a sigh of relief. The strike notice for pilots and cabin crew, slated for October 17–21, was suspended on the evening of October 9 by the inter-union, according to TourMaG. The unions, however, caution that action could be back on the table if the government's commitments are not honored.

Metro: why is Line 6 closed on Sunday?

The Line 6 goes for another pause for modernization works, across its entire length and all day Sunday, October 18. This time, there’s no rush to block buses: according to Paris Zigzag, replacement buses will run between Charles de Gaulle-Étoile and La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle.

To circumnavigate Paris without her, the ligne 2 remains her natural northern twin. The two lines form a loop and meet at Étoile and Nation. The view of the Eiffel Tower from the Bir-Hakeim viaduct will have to wait until Monday.

  • Ligne 4 : Saint-Michel station will be out of service until 19 December 2026 inclusive, due to renovation work. Here’s what’s going on with this project.
  • Ligne 6 : on Sunday, 18 October, service will be interrupted across the entire line due to modernization works.
  • Ligne 8 : République station will be out of service until 22 April 2027 inclusive, due to renovation work. All the details on this closure.

Note for readers: starting Monday, October 19, and through October 25 inclusive, Line 2 will be suspended between Père Lachaise and Barbès-Rochechouart for renovation work.

RER A, C, D and E: what disruptions are planned for this weekend?

The RER B has no announced closures this weekend. The other four lines are affected, with a problem area south of the RER C, on the road to Orly Airport.

RER A

  • From October 16 to 29, inclusive, including weekends, starting at 9:45 p.m., traffic will be interrupted between La Varenne-Chennevières and Boissy-Saint-Léger due to modernization works.

More information on the A line's website.

RER C

  • On Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, all day, the following stations will be out of service due to works: Ivry-sur-Seine, Vitry-sur-Seine, Les Saules, Orly Ville, Pont de Rungis-Aéroport d'Orly, La Fraternelle, Chemin d'Antony, and Massy-Verrières. Replacement buses will be provided.
  • From 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, service will be interrupted between Gare d'Austerlitz and Dourdan, and between Gare d'Austerlitz and Saint-Martin-d'Étampes, due to works.

To reach Orly this weekend, Line 14 of the metro remains the easiest option from central Paris. The details are listed on the RER C traffic information page and on our real-time coverage.

RER D

  • On Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, traffic will be halted all day between Stade de France-Saint-Denis and Creil due to works. Replacement buses will serve the intermediate stations.
  • On Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, the Créteil-Pompadour and Villeneuve-Triage stations will not be served. A replacement bus service is in place.
  • On Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, traffic will be lighter between Gare de Lyon and Melun due to works.
  • Until December 31 inclusive, the transport offering along the entire line will be adjusted (new maintenance workshops are being created).

The full closure schedule is published by Bonjour RATP, with live updates on our dedicated RER D page.

RER E

  • On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, starting at 10:45 p.m., traffic is suspended between Nanterre-La-Folie and Chelles-Gournay due to maintenance work.
  • On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, all day, traffic is suspended between Villiers-sur-Marne-Le Plessis-Trévise and Tournan due to maintenance work.

During the day, traveling across Paris on the RER E is once again possible, unlike last weekend. Real-time updates on the line are available on our site.

Transilien: why are lines N and P the hardest hit?

Two lines account for most of the weekend service cuts. Line N, toward Yvelines, loses its segment between Paris and Versailles. Line P, toward Seine-et-Marne, no longer serves Coulommiers or Provins for much of the time.

Line N

  • On Friday, October 16, starting at 11:55 p.m., service is suspended between Gare Montparnasse and Dreux due to works.
  • On Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18 until 3:45 p.m., service is suspended between Gare Montparnasse and Versailles Chantiers due to works.
  • On the night from Saturday 17 to Sunday 18, from 12:02 a.m. to 2:59 a.m., service is suspended from Gare Montparnasse toward Versailles Chantiers due to works.
  • On Sunday, October 18 from 10:25 p.m., service is suspended from Rambouillet toward Gare Montparnasse due to works.
  • On Sunday, October 18 from 11:10 p.m., service is suspended from Plaisir-Grignon toward Gare Montparnasse due to works.

To work around the disruption, SNCF recommends using line U, extended to Rambouillet, the RER C, or line V.

Line P

  • On Saturday, October 17, all day, service between Gare de l'Est and Coulommiers is suspended due to maintenance work.
  • On Sunday, October 18, until 4 p.m., service between Gare de l'Est and Coulommiers is suspended for works.
  • On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, from 10 p.m., service between Gare de l'Est and Coulommiers is suspended due to works.
  • On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, from 10:45 p.m., service between Gare de l'Est and Meaux is suspended due to works.
  • On Sunday, October 18 from 10:45 p.m., service between Gare de l'Est and Château-Thierry is suspended due to works.
  • On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, service between Gare de l'Est and Provins is suspended due to works.

Train stations, airports and Porte de Versailles: where should you allow more time?

Saturday marks the start of the All Saints’ Day holidays. Parisian stations and airports will see a surge of departures, and the real risk to the day’s travel lies on the roads. Should protests or blockades near oil depots occur, journeys by car, taxi or ride-hailing to Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, Orly and the stations could stretch. Road traffic is updated live on Sytadin, terminals on Paris Aéroport, and long-distance trains on SNCF Connect.

In Paris’s 15th district, the Mondial de l’Auto is in its closing days at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, with doors set to shut on Sunday, October 18. Expect packed trains on line 12 and on tram lines T2 and T3a. On Sunday, the Vincennes forest semi-marathon will also trigger road closures in eastern Paris, with bus detours heading toward the 12th arrondissement and Val-de-Marne.

Good news, however, for Seine-Saint-Denis and Essonne: the social movements that had been disrupting the T11 and T14 tram services on weekdays are set to end this Friday, October 16.

How to plan a night out this weekend?

Substitute buses are planned on most of the affected sections. Their stops and timetables appear in the Île-de-France Mobilités, RATP, and Transilien apps. On Saturday, it’s wise to have a backup plan if you need to traverse central Paris in the afternoon, in case stations are closed at the prefecture’s request.
