In 2026, the French will be called to the polls—not to elect Members of Parliament for the National Assembly, but for municipal elections. It’s a civic duty, embodied by your voter card. However, many might not have theirs — lost, stolen, outdated, or simply misplaced — meaning a lot of voters may lack their electoral card when heading to the polls on Sunday, March 15 and 22, 2026.
But don't worry, it's not mandatory to bring this document when casting your vote. In fact, a photo ID is sufficient for the occasion. However, it’s always advisable to have it with you, as it greatly helps the poll workers by confirming that you are properly registered on the electoral rolls.
There's no need to present an old voter’s card, as it would show the wrong registration number. The new voter’s card now includes a QR Code that, when scanned, directs you to the website elections.interieur.gouv.fr for detailed information about the election. However, if you don’t have your card on hand, don’t worry—you can still go vote without it.
