While a consultation on the place of self-service scooters in Paris is organized in April, an official study comes to undermine the arguments of the Paris City Hall around the accidents caused by this mobility.

On April 2, 2023, all Parisians are invited to vote for or against extending the contract for self-service scooters in the capital. Paris City Hall, which is openly opposed to this extension, believes that thenegative aspects of scooters are more important, between accidents and disrespect for sidewalks and pedestrians. However, the three operators Tier, Lime and Dott, had been waiting for several months for the results of a study, commissioned by the City to the research firm 6t, specialized in mobility, which they did not receive despite their requests, according to Le Parisien. What can be found in it?

According to the information of the daily, which was able to consult this document, scooters are not the most responsible for accidents in the capital. They are, in fact, supplanted by the Velib'! This study, delivered in May 2022, reviews the different modes of travel available: bikes, scooters, scooters, as well as the profile of their users and the accidents caused. A very useful document for scooter operators, who asked in June 2022 to consult the study and were not able to, as they said in September. They will only have access to it at the beginning of February 2023.

According to this study, 26% of scooter users report having had an accident, half as many as Velib' users, who are 51%. The severity of accidents is also higher for bicycles than for scooters. Moreover, twice as many women as men say they feel that getting home on a scooter at night makes them feel safer. Regarding theimpact on the environment, 19% of scooters replace trips in a motorized vehicle.
