Inaugurated in 1922, line 9 of the Paris metro is one of the longest and busiest. From Pont de Sèvres to Mairie de Montreuil, it crosses three communes: Boulogne-Billancourt to the west, in Hauts-de-Seine, and Paris and Montreuil to the east, in Seine-Saint-Denis. It is also the first Paris metro line to serve the suburbs. For almost 20km, line 9 of the RATP public transport network offers connections with most other metro lines, with the exception of 3bis, 7bis and 12. RER lines A, C and E can also be reached from line 9.

On its Parisian section, line 9 connects with many tourist attractions, including the Trocadéro and its breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower, the department stores of boulevard Haussmann ( Havre Caumartin and Chaussée d'Antin - Lafayette stations), the famous avenue des Champs-Elysées(Franklin D. Roosevelt), and runs mainly through the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 11th, 16th and 20th arrondissements.
