Can the metro still be used as a pretext for the legend of the Paris quarter-hour? According to Île-de-France Mobilité, punctuality on RATP lines improved in 2024. It has to be said that, when it comes to delays, not all lines are equal: lines 3, 6, 7, 8 and 13 of the Paris metro were considered to be in particular difficulty, and would have been the subject of special attention since early 2024 by RATP at the request ofÎle-de-France Mobilités.
And indeed, a press release issued on February 21, 2025 states that "The cumulative punctuality rate for 2024 is 96.18%, 3.45 points higher than in 2023 (92.73%)". Île-de-France Mobilités attributes this improvement to the implementation of action plans by RATP on lines deemed to be in difficulty. Of the 5 lines concerned, all now boast punctuality rates in excess of 90%. The only exception is line 8, which rose from 87% to 88% between 2023 and 2024. This slow progress is attributable to a structural weakness on this line.
The report unveiled by Île-de-France Mobilités also reveals ultra-punctuality on automated lines : line 1 shows a rate of 101.02% and line 14, extended this year, shows a rate of 101.76%. The only non-automated line to pass the 100% mark is line 5, with a rate of 101.01%. The same press release also indicates that these improvements are set to continue, with the arrival of the new-generation MF19 metro on line 10 at the end of 2025, and the renewal of rolling stock on line 6 until mid-2026.
And what about the RER network? On this subject, Île-de-France Mobilités comes to the following conclusion: "Overall, in 2024, all RER lines and trains, with the exception of RER B, C and D, met the targets set by Île-de-France Mobilités. However, these lines have also improved compared with 2023: RER B has risen from 85% to 88%, while RER C and D have increased from 86% to 88% and 87% respectively."
