Already adopted by over a million users, the Navigo Liberté+ is a highly flexible pass. This pass allows unlimited travel in eligible zones, paying only for journeys actually made, with a deduction at the end of the month. Valérie Pécresse, President of theÎle-de-France region and ofÎle-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), announced that since November 2024, the number of subscribers has exploded.
As of Monday June 23, 2025, you will no longer need the physical card version; simply open the Île-de-France Mobilitésapplication and activate validation to access transport. Validation will work even when your phone is switched off, a major advantage for avoiding the inconvenience of a flat battery.
Simply place the device on a validator to open the gate. If your tickets are stored in the secure element or on your phone's SIM card, validation is possible even when the battery is empty on many phone models, whereas if your tickets are stored in the Mes Tickets Navigo application, your phone's screen must be on to validate, but you don't need to open the application.
Another advantage: metro-train-bus or streetcar connections will be free for Navigo Liberté+ users. " This means you can just pass your smartphone - even if it's switched off, I might add - over the validator, and travel wherever you want," Valérie Pécresse explained.
In addition to being practical and economical, this dematerialized mode of transport responds to new travel habits. With a fare of €1.99 per metro and RER journey (instead of €2.50 for a classic ticket) and €1.60 for a bus or tramway journey, the Navigo Liberté+ is a wise choice for occasional users. Payment will be debited the following month directly to the linked bank account.
The gradual phasing out of paper ticket books has prompted IDFM to speed up its transition to digital technology. From now on, no more queues at ticket machines and lost tickets: everything is managed from your smartphone!
The arrival of Liberté+ on smartphones marks another step towards the complete digitization of transport tickets in the Île-de-France region. Since the Paris 2024 Olympics, tickets as well as Navigo day, week and month cards have been compatible with Apple devices, after long years of discussions. These tickets had already been available on Android smartphones since 2022.
All that's missing now is the digital version of the Navigo annual pass and Imagine R. " We've chosen to give priority to passes that need to be renewed frequently, to avoid having to go to ticket offices," explained Laurent Probst, Director of Île-de-France Mobilités. According to Valérie Pécresse, the annual pass should arrive on iOS and Android devices in the first half of 2026.
