Jean Tiberi, former mayor of Paris, dies aged 90

Jean Tiberi, best known for his time as Mayor of Paris, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at the age of 90.

Elected mayor of the 5th arrondissement and then mayor of Paris, following Jacques Chirac, from 1995 to 2001, Jean Tiberi died on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, aged 90.

Born on January 30, 1935, Jean Tiberi is a French magistrate and politician. A member of the Union des démocrates pour la République (UDR), the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) and then the Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP), Jean Tiberi held a variety of political positions, from deputy for Paris (1968-2012) to first deputy to Jacques Chirac (1983-1995), before becoming mayor of the 5th arrondissement (1983-1995) and then mayor of Paris.

A Parisian by birth, he studied at the Collège Sainte-Barbe and the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris. In 2013, he was sentenced on appeal toa ten-month suspended prison sentence (as well as a €10,000 fine and three years' ineligibility) for registering false voters on the lists of his mayor's office in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, during the 1995 municipal and 1997 legislative elections, according to France Info.

At the age of 90, Jean Tiberi passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2025.
