For the many users of line 9, the month of August is starting with a complication: RATP has announced a total interruption in traffic from August 4 to 8, 2025. Why this closure and what are the alternatives? We share our solutions for adapting your journeys!

A word of warning to Parisians and visitors passing through at the start of August: if you're planning to take line 9, you're in for a real treat: traffic is completely disrupted between Mairie de Montreuil and Pont de Sèvres. This concerns the entire line, from terminus to terminus.

With 133 million passengers in 2024, line 9 is the third busiest in the Parisian public transport network, RATP. It crosses Paris and serves the inner suburbs from east to west, linking the department of Hauts-de-Seine, with the towns of Sèvres, Saint-Cloud and Boulogne-Billancourt, to Seine-Saint-Denis, with the town of Montreuil. The route takes in many tourist attractions, including the Champs-Elysées, the Trocadero esplanade with its view of the Eiffel Tower, the department stores of Boulevard Haussmann, and the Grands Boulevards, home to a number of famous theaters.

This closure is scheduled to start at 10:45pm on August 4 and will last until August 8 inclusive. The reason for the closure?Modernization work. But what alternatives are planned for passengers? RATP has announced the introduction of replacement buses to enable users to follow the line's itinerary.

On the other hand, by relying on buses, especially when it comes to the suburbs, you can join other lines that might bring you closer to your destination, as line 9 has numerous transfer points. From Montreuil, you can take lines 1 (Vincennes) or 11, while from Hauts-de-Seine, you can take lines 12 (Issy-les-Moulineaux) or L. RER line A takes you from Auber to the Haussmann district , and from Champs Elysées to Charles-de-Gaulle Etoile and Nation in the 12th arrondissement. Line 5 takes you to 11th arrondissement and Canal-Saint-Martin, while line 8 takes you to Grands Boulevards. For the Trocadéro, take line 6, and for the 16th arrondissement, take line 10. Navigation applications such as Bonjour RATP and CityMapper should help you find the best alternative for your journey.
