Summer 2026 is not yet here, but Île-de-France Mobilités is already talking about the major underground works to come during this period. Every year, the RATP and SNCF choose the summer season to carry out major works on the Île-de-France network. Next summer, these works will be "very significant," according to Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) on its website. At a press conference held on November 26, 2025, the organizing authority for mobility in the Île-de-France region detailed the program of construction projects and traffic disruptions planned for the first half of 2026 and next summer.
In the metro, lines 4, 8, and 12 will be affected. RER users will not escape either. On the RER A, renovation work (waterproofing, platform refurbishment, etc.) is to be carried out at Nation station. The result? Nation station, which is very popular with Parisian and Île-de-France users, will be closed for two consecutive months. Specifically, trains will not stop at Nation on the RER A line from June 29 to August 30, 2026. Passengers will therefore have to find alternative routes if they wish to travel to Nation by public transport.
In addition, IDFM has announced further service interruptions on the RER A line. Due to the replacement of several pieces of track equipment, sleepers, and ballast, the RER A line will be closed from August 8 to 23, 2026, between Vincennes (not included) and Noisy-le-Grand - Mont d'Est. Finally, night work is planned at Maisons-Laffitte station during the week from June 1 to 17 and over five consecutive weekends from June 6 to July 5, 2026.
AsÎle-de-France Mobilités points out, these new works on the metro and RER are necessary to "regenerate and develop the network, in order to ensure its modernization by 2030." It should be noted that new rolling stock is due to be introduced shortly, such as the RER NG on the RER D and E lines, and the MI 20 on the RER B line. New metro lines are also due to be introduced, namely lines 15, 16, 17, and 18. IDFM states that nearly €3.8 billion is earmarked for 2026 to "regenerate, modernize, and develop the Île-de-France network."
