Will there be snow in Paris and across Île-de-France at the start of 2026? Early forecasts suggest it could very well happen!
The start of this week, marking the end of 2025, looks to be calm and bright across much of the country. In the north, the sun will be shining, especially in Île-de-France. No weather-related disruptions are forecasted for New Year's Eve. As for temperatures, expect between -1°C and 1°C on the evening of December 31st. Make sure to dress warmly if you're planning to go out and celebrate the New Year on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. During the night, stay alert, as freezing fog is forecasted in the west of the Yvelines and the south of Essonne.
The very first day of New Year 2026 is expected to be quite mixed, with fog and overcast skies across much of Île-de-France in the morning of January 1st. The clouds are likely to stick around throughout the afternoon.
Then, during the night of January 1st to 2nd, the weather is expected to shift, with snowflakes possibly beginning to fall, particularly in Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, and the southern parts of Yvelines. This snowfall could persist in some areas of Île-de-France through the morning and into the afternoon of Friday, January 2, accompanied by a mix of rain and snow in Essonne, Yvelines, and Val-d'Oise.
Because France will be caught this week " amid a large-scale air mass conflict, with cold air from the north and a temporary warm front from the south," the Météo Chain warns. They also caution drivers that "the post-Christmas return could bring challenging conditions on the roads: with rain, snow, and strong winds, extra vigilance will be needed if you’re traveling," the meteorological service adds.
What about the upcoming weekend and the start of the New Year 2026? According to Météo France, the weather is expected to calm down and become drier on Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4, with clearer skies returning. However, temperatures are likely to stay cold, fluctuating between 1°C and 3°C. As these are initial forecasts, we’ll need to wait for further updates to confirm these trends in the coming days.
