Last fall, there were reports suggesting a potential merger between the retail chain Gifi and the supermarket brand Grand Frais. As 2025 comes to a close, the specialist site LSA reveals that around thirty Gifi stores will switch under the Grand Frais banner starting June 2026. According to LSA, specifically 32 outlets will be converted into Grand Frais—a well-known French supermarket chain specializing in fresh produce and international groceries. This move underscores the brand’s growing appetite and strong growth ambitions, especially as it is set to be acquired by an American investment fund. Grand Frais has been opening about twenty new stores annually and now boasts nearly 335 locations across France.
While not yet officially confirmed by Grand Frais, LSA has exclusively revealed the list of stores affected by this rebranding; the transition is expected to take place gradually starting in June 2026. According to RMC, nearly 300 employees could be impacted by this acquisition.
These Gifi stores, which are being taken over by Grand Frais, are scattered across France, from the Pyrénées-Orientales to the Morbihan, Hérault, Aube, Haute-Garonne, Gironde, as well as Charente and the Alpes-Maritimes.
In Île-de-France, three Gifi stores are set to change hands, according to LSA. The first is located in Provins in Seine-et-Marne, while the second is based in Vitry-sur-Seine, in the Val-de-Marne. Finally, the third Gifi store, soon to be converted into a Grand Frais, is located in Cergy, in the Val-d'Oise.
It is worth recalling that in spring 2025, Gifi announced the permanent closure of three of its stores in Île-de-France, located in Thiais (Val-de-Marne), Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis), and Pontault-Combault (Seine-et-Marne).
