Lacking funds, the organization behind both the Paris Carnival and the Women's Carnival has announced the cancellation of these beloved events, which have long been highlights for Parisians and visitors alike.

This |announcement| was made quietly, yet it marks the end of a |major event| in the Parisian cultural calendar. In an |official statement| issued on October 23, 2025, through its |website|, the |Droit à la Culture association| revealed that there will be no more |Paris Carnival| nor |Women’s Carnival| due to lack of staff and funding.

The president of the Paris Carnival and the Women’s Carnival, Ilham Mouhid, shares this message: "Dear participants and friends of the Paris Carnival and the Women’s Carnival, it is with deep regret that I must announce, on behalf of the Droit à la Culture association, the decision to bring an end to both events. This difficult choice stems from a lack of human resources and funding. We simply can’t guarantee the safety of participants, due to financial constraints and a shortage of volunteers."

And they went on to say: "We understand that this news will be disappointing for many of you, and we share your sadness. The Paris Carnival and the Women’s Carnival are rich and vibrant traditions, and we are aware of how much they mean to countless people. We want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to the success of these events over the years: participants, volunteers, artists, and Paris residents. Your passion and dedication have been vital to bringing these celebrations to life."

While the carnival tradition in Paris dates back to the 15th century, succeeding the Fête des Fous, the Paris Carnival as we know it today was revived in 1998. The idea was put forward by artist Basile Pachkoff and driven by the Droit à la Culture association, founded by Alain Riou. The event had not taken place since 1952.

With the aim of promoting the development and celebration of cultural rights and making culture more accessible to all, the association organized the annual Paris Carnival. This event offered Parisians and visitors alike the chance to enjoy a vibrant, lively parade bursting with color. The Carnival of Women, also known as the Laundry Workers' Festival, was launched back in 2008.
