Due to another snowfall forecasted in Île-de-France and a fresh orange alert issued by Météo France, the Prefect of Essonne announces that all school transportation will be suspended across the entire department once again on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
A new snowstorm is forecast for Île-de-France this Wednesday. After heavy snowfall in the region on January 5th, the area could be blanketed once again with significant snow on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. The prefectures across Île-de-France are on high alert, with several announcing the suspension of school transportation. For instance, Essonne has already stopped school buses this Tuesday, and further disruptions are expected on Wednesday due to a new orange weather warning issued by Météo France for snow and ice. The weather agency warns that "all precipitation will fall as snow that will immediately settle on the ground" and anticipates totals for the entire episode of around 3 to 5 cm, with localized accumulations up to 7 cm, "mostly expected in the outer suburbs."
It's worth recalling that traffic conditions have been particularly challenging on roads across Île-de-France this Monday evening and Tuesday morning due to the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures. On Monday evening, around 5:30 p.m., over 1,000 kilometers of traffic jams were recorded across the region. To prevent a recurrence, Météo France urges caution. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot recommends that people postpone travel within Île-de-France and prefer telecommuting if possible. Similar advice has been echoed by Valérie Pécresse. The President of Île-de-France calls on residents not to travel tomorrow morning if they can avoid it and to work remotely as much as possible.
