Since 2025, swimming in the Seine has become possible during the summer months, though with certain restrictions. For two months, three designated spots are open to the public for bathing. These sites are free and accessible to everyone, offering Parisians a way to cool off without leaving the city. While the locations at Bercy and Grenelle remain unchanged, the bathing basin at Bras Marie closed permanently last year. In 2026, a new spot further downstream will open to replace it.
The location of the Bras Marie raised concerns because, unlike the other two sites, it impacted river navigation and consequently affected the local economy. To address this, a new, carefully designed and secure area is being developed on the other side of Île Saint-Louis. Originally located at the foot of the Pont de Sully, the swimming zone has been moved closer to Pont Louis-Philippe, with a 60-meter gap between the two bridges.
As for the opening dates, nothing is set in stone just yet. However, swimming is expected to operate much like last year, running from early July to the end of August during the summer months. Depending on weather conditions, this period could be shortened, as 2025’s weather has not always been kind, and the sites did not remain open as often as planned, due to concerns over water quality.
Paris: why won't the Bras Marie bathing site reopen in 2026?
The Bras Marie bathing site, located in the 4th arrondissement opposite Ile Saint-Louis, will not reopen next year. The Île-de-France prefecture has confirmed this decision, in order to improve river navigation on the Seine. Two new sites are being considered for 2026, at the Pont Louis-Philippe and the Tino-Rossi gardens. [Read more]
