Annealing the nerves of countless commuters across Paris and Île-de-France, the summer travel disruption season is back. Each year, track work upends daily routines, and 2026 will be no exception. Île-de-France Mobilités has outlined planned service interruptions on four RER lines, four metro lines, two tram lines, and two Transilien lines. Specifically, expect disruptions on the metro lines 4, 8, 12 and 13, as well as on the RER lines A and C.
The B and D lines will not be spared either. On the RER B, no train will run between Bourg-la-Reine and Gare du Nord from July 25 to August 6, then between La Croix de Berny / Robinson and Gare du Nord from August 7 to 16. On the RER D, traffic will be interrupted from July 25 to August 16 between Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon. During this period, trains will have Gare du Nord as their northern origin and Gare de Lyon as their southern terminus.
So what does this mean? Île-de-France Mobilités is forecasting a risk of heavy crowding on a metro line. Specifically, it concerns line 5, which runs from Bobigny - Pablo Picasso to Place d'Italie. This line, one of the busiest in the city, serves key stations including Nord and Est stations, as well as République, Bastille, and Gare d’Austerlitz. According to Île-de-France Mobilités, passenger traffic could be even higher this summer due to the closures of the RER B and D in central Paris.
Ridership could be higher on Line 5 of the metro, between Gare du Nord and Bastille, and from July 25 to August 16, 2026. Whenever possible, travelers are advised to take alternative routes, such as Lines 1, 4, 7 or 8 of the metro.
