A summer interruption that paves the way for the future of the Paris metro... Apartial closure of line 8is planned, as reported by our colleagues at Le Parisien, from August 20 to 27, 2026, between Balard (15th arrondissement) and Concorde (1st arrondissement). This temporary interruption is due to work required for the arrival of the newMF19 metro trains, which will modernize several lines in the network. Nine stations will be unavailable for a week, impacting users' daily commutes.
This operation, which is necessary for the arrival of the new metro, is a step in the modernization of several old lines on the network. Although it is taking place during the summer, which is traditionally less busy, the closure affects a densely populated area, connecting important transfer hubs and residential and tourist districts.
The section concerned extends from the Balard terminus, connected to tram lines T2 and T3a, to Concorde, connecting lines 1 and 12. During this week of interruption, the stations Lourmel, Boucicaut, Félix Faure, Commerce, La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle (connections with lines 6 and 10), École Militaire, La Tour-Maubourg, Invalides (Metro 13 and RER C), and Concorde will not be served. The entire southwestern section of the line will therefore be temporarily isolated from the rest of the route.
This closure is the last major operation scheduled for summer 2026. Other lines will also experience partial or total interruptions upstream, notably metro lines 4, 12, and 13. On the RER network , lines A, B, and C will also experience disruptions as part of scheduled summer works.
Users will be invited to use neighboring metro lines and surface networks to bypass the closed section. Alternative routes should be offered to limit disruption, particularly around transfer stations such as La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle and Invalides.
This temporary interruption is therefore one step in a particularly busy summer schedule of works on the Île-de-France network in 2026. Regular passengers and visitors alike will need to plan their journeys in advance, while transport operators continue to prepare the future equipment that will gradually modernize the metropolitan transport system.
