Since the start of the high-school crisis that began on September 18 in Créteil, the protests have shown no signs of waning. On October 6, high school students and university students, supported by parents, teachers and farmers, took to the streets to demand more resources and better study conditions. A week earlier, this large demonstration drew 56,000 people in Paris according to the Interior Ministry and 100,000 according to the organizers.
Amid the momentum of the protest and the government’s tepid response, high school and student groups urged the movement to continue and called for a major rally at Place de la Bastille two days later, on October 8.
This week, the push continues as the student and professional union coalition has called for a new day of protest and strike this Tuesday, October 13, 2026. "Until we see 10 billion on the table, we’ll keep mobilizing," said Sabrine Kharbach, spokesperson for the Student Union, at the rally held on October 8. "I’m urging everyone to join the mobilizations even more forcefully (...) and to participate in the demonstrations from Tuesday across the country," she added.
“We are calling for a strike among all staff in the national education system and higher education on Tuesday,” Caroline Cheuvé, secretary-general of the Unified Trade Union Federation (FSU), said.
Amid the latest wave of mobilization expected for Tuesday, the RATP announces fresh disruptions in the Parisian public transport and the closure of several stations in Paris. Once again, the stations affected are those located along the route of the protest.
This Tuesday, the parcours of the main demonstration will start from Place d'Italie in the 13th arrondissement and head to Place Vauban in the 7th. At the request of the Police Prefecture, the Rue du Bac station (line 12) and the Varenne station (line 13) will therefore be closed from 9 a.m.. For these two stations, trains will not stop. "Reopening will be carried out with authorization from the Police Prefecture," the RATP notes. Note that other metro stations could also be closed this Tuesday, so stay tuned for updates.
