The film follows Michel, who believes that true love should happen by pure chance, just like the romance his parents lived. By contrast, his friend Vincent treats dating as a numbers game, pursuing relationships with a much more straightforward approach. Everything changes when they meet Angèle and Nathalie, two women who force them to rethink their certainties.

Through this pair of contrasting male leads, Love Is Better When Two fits into the tradition of romantic comedies built around two competing visions of love. The film pits faith in serendipity against a more calculated approach to seduction, while weaving a plot of mistaken identities and thwarted meetings.

The project marks Dominique Farrugia's return to directing, more than ten years after Trafic d’influence. The screenplay, written by Arnaud Lemort with Franck Dubosc, was initially conceived under the title L’homme qui murmurait à l’oreille des femmes, before evolving into a more direct romantic comedy, influenced by Anglo-Saxon models of the genre.

The cast features Clovis Cornillac, Virginie Efira, and Manu Payet, along with Annelise Hesme, Shirley Bousquet, Laurence Arné, and Sophie Vouzelaud. The film was shot in Paris and the Paris suburbs over seven weeks, beginning June 1, 2009.
