Free open-air cinema at the Musée du Quai Branly special Studio Ghibli, films on the program

Attention lovers of Studio Ghibli animated films! This summer, from July 13 to August 20, 2023, the Musée du Quai Branly is offering free open-air cinema screenings as part of Jardin d'été! Enjoy Japanese creations in front of the Eiffel Tower. Don't forget to book!

The gardens of the Musée du Quai Branly become an open-air cinema for the summer season. With a program centered on the legendary Studio Ghibli, we immerse ourselves in the masterpieces ofJapanese animation from July 13 to August 20, 2023.

The event is marked by the exhibition of the tapestry "Ashitaka relieves his demonic wound", created by the Cité internationale de la tapisserie d'Aubusson in collaboration with Studio Ghibli. The piece, inspired byHayao Miyazaki's film Princesse Mononoké, is on display in the museum's lobby.

The program of this film cycle celebrates not only Studio Ghibli mainstays Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, but also other notable names in Japanese animation, from studios such as Kyoto Animation, Production I.G, Signal.MD.

The event provides a forum for the ecological issues addressed in the works of Miyazaki andHiromasa Yonebayashi. They address contemporary issues such as rural transformation, urbanization, human responsibility and the role of non-humans.

In the idyllic setting of the Théâtre de Verdure, we once again treat ourselves to the Jardin d'été 2023 program, which invites us to reconnect with nature through the prism of Japanese animation. We discover a nature that is sometimes real, sometimes imaginary, sometimes mystical, from mysterious marshes to toxic forests. It's a journey among tanukis, totoros and other wild boars.

All in all, we're offered a sensational experience, where nature and animation merge in a summer celebration of cinema.
