The Bollywood Superstars exhibition unveils, immerse yourself in Indian cinema at the Musée du Quai Branly

TheBollywood Superstars exhibition, at the Musée du Quai Branly from September 26, 2023 to January 14, 2024, promises to plunge us into the heart of this prolific film industry, the world's largest in terms of production.

The immersive experience offered by the exhibition takes us into the dance scenes and palaces of historic Indian films. Over 200 works - paintings, shadow figures, costumes, photographs - illustrating the incredible diversity of popular arts, stories and artistic influences that have forged the infinite universe of Indian cinema, are on show.

• The roots: pre-cinemas and folk arts: Discover the storytelling, shadow theater and magic lantern shows that preceded and coexisted with Indian cinema. Handle a magic lantern designed for the exhibition and immerse yourself in the choreography of regional dances re-adapted by cinema.
  
• Gods and princes on screen: mythological and historical films: immerse yourself in films that have appealed to everyone by portraying gods and historical heroes. Admire an exceptional collection of chromolithographs and original paintings by Ravi Varma, the father of mythological cinema.
  
• Movies Superstars: the new gods of film: In the last part of the tour, you can join in the thrills of the world's most beloved actors and actresses. The Indian star system, unrivalled anywhere in the world, is showcased through an installation of giant screens.
