True regulars, Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu return to Cannes 2024 with their new film, Le Roman de Jim, adapted from the novel of the same name by Pierric Bailly.
After Fin d' été (at Acid in 1998), La Brèche de Roland (at the Directors' Fortnight in 2000), Peindre ou faire l'amour (in competition at the Cannes Festival in 2005), Le Voyage aux Pyrénées (at the Directors' Fortnight in 2008) and Tralala, their musical comedy presented at the Séance de Minuit in 2021, the Larrieu brothers are back in the Cannes Première selection.
The story of Jim's novel spans 25 years. Aymeric, Jim's stepfather, met Florence, his mother, when she was six months pregnant. The three of them lead a happy life in the Jura region of France, until the biological father, Christophe, returns following a personal tragedy. Aymeric felt out of place and, estranged from his child, decided to make a life for himself elsewhere. But years later, 23-year-old Jim knocks on Aymeric's door.
The film features a first-rate French cast: Karim Leklou, Laetitia Dosch, Sara Giraudeau, Sara Forestier and Bertrand Belin.
