Corsican films are all the rage at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. After Julien Colonna's Le Royaume, selected in the Un Certain Regard section, Thierry de Peretti's A son image has just been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2024, one of the festival's parallel selections running from May 15 to 25.
With Antonia Buresi, Cédric Appietto and Alexis Manenti in the cast, A son image films fragments of the life of Antonia, a young photographer working for Corse-Matin in Ajaccio. Her commitment, her friends and her loves are interwoven with the major events in the island's political history, from the 1980s to the dawn of the 21st century. It's the fresco of a generation.
Director of the excellent Les Apaches, Une vie violente and Enquête sur un scandale d'État, Thierry de Peretti has once again set about filming his native Corsica.
The Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "Adapting a novel by Jérôme Ferrari, Thierry de Peretti's À son image revisits the history of Corsica at the end of the 20th century from the point of view of a young press photographer having an affair with an independence fighter. Refusing all didacticism, the film is a generational fresco that traverses several events in the political struggle and manages to delicately capture Corsica's singularity."
