Launched for the first time last year, the Immersive Competition is the Cannes Film Festival 2025 selection celebrating new technologies.
Last year, the Cannes Film Festival unveiled a brand-new selection, the Immersive Competition, held this year at the Carlton Hotel, which includes collective virtual reality installations, mixed reality experiences, video mapping and holographic works.
In all, 9 projects from 9 countries have been selected to "showcase the avant-garde of this new art form, challenging established conventions, embracing new technologies and celebrating new artists as well as established figures." 2 works will also be presented out of competition. They"explore the evolution of the medium and draw parallels between virtual reality, virtual production, cinema and collective storytelling." A focus on five Luxembourg creations is also expected.
The Best Immersive Work Award will be presented at a closing ceremony on May 23 by a select jury. Chaired by French director Luc Jacquet, the jury includes American artist Laurie Anderson, French writer Tania de Montaigne, British director Martha Fiennes and Japanese video game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi.
