Out of the blue, the Paris bar-cinema that blends natural wines with auteur short films

Right in the heart of Paris’s 11th arrondissement, Out of the Blue blends a wine bar with cinema for the curious and cinephiles. Auteur short films, natural wines, and a salon-like, carpeted atmosphere... here we sip, nibble, and dive into an experience that’s at once offbeat, creative, and convivial.

Out of the Blue is the go-to hangout for curious wanderers and Paris cinéphiles in the 11th arrondissement, tucked on Rue Saint-Maur between the Atelier des Lumières and Père-Lachaise. A wine-and-film bar — yes, the two in one — that reimagines the evening out. Here you sip, you watch, you discover, all in a living-room vibe with a moquette floor, a mirrored ceiling, and no bar counter, replaced by a small kitchen nook that shakes up the usual rules.

From Thursday to Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., we showcase for free (and without reservations) a lineup of auteur short films by Lynch, Herzog and other giants of the genre. Along the way, we grab a glass of natural wine: white or red for €6, or the sparkling or provocative "blouge"—this bold white-red-rosé blend signed Pépin—at €8. Alcohol-free option? A sparkling grape juice from winemakers (no added sugar) for €6 or a rooibos infusion, hot or iced, does the job.

For a bite, it’s Source cheese from the Source dairy and salty or sweet popcorn, because the cinema remains a hands-on affair.

On Sundays, Out of the Blue shifts into family mode once a month, with a kids' screening from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.—parents toast at the bar while the little ones enjoy the cinema. Then, every dimanche soir, it’s time for the ciné-club sur réservation featuring a carefully chosen long-métrage.

We go up for a drink, we descend to the roughly ten-seat screening room, and above all we relish a sharp yet accessible program, visible on the venue’s Instagram account. The name, inspired by Dennis Hopper’s cult film (1980), captures the spirit of the place and its love for auteur cinema. Chloé, also a filmmaker, envisioned this space to spark discovery and build connections—a place where cinema and wine riff on each other to create an unusual, creative, and convivial experience!

Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, please drink responsibly.
