Our review of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - La Forteresse Infinie - Film 1

We were able to see Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - La Forteresse Infinie - Film 1 at its French premiere (a first outside Asia) at the Grand Rex on September 5.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - La Forteresse Infinie - Film 1 is an excellent animated film, in line with the previous film and the 4 seasons of the animated series. Technically, in terms of animation, chara design, colors, sound and even sound effects, the film does even better than its predecessor. As for the script, it remains classic (a sequence of fights and flashbacks), but will normally be stepped up with the last two films in the trilogy.

The ufotable studio is still in charge of the animated adaptation of this world-famous manga, which has sold 220 million copies for 23 volumes (in comparison, One Piece has sold over 500 million copies for over 100 volumes). Demon Slayer can truly be described as a phenomenon.

This film is aimed primarily at people who have read the manga and/or watched theanime, as it picks up where season 4 left off with the training of the pillars.
In fact, you'll be glad to see the plot start right away, without any introduction or reminder of previous events.
In fact, you'll immediately be in the thick of the action, inside this famous infinite fortress. The mechanics of the film will then be very fluid, revolving around 2 types of highlights: the fights and the flashbacks.

Regarding the fights, without spoiling of course, you'll have 3 fights against superior moons, including 1 that constitutes the climax of the film: the fight against Akaza! Of course, we'll also be seeing a lot of Tanjiro, stronger than ever, as during season 4 of the anime series, we saw just how much he's progressed.

As for the flashbacks, they're an integral part of the work, as they're already very present in the manga. It's therefore logical that studio ufotable should have integrated them into the film, even if they can break the rhythm a little, as some of these flashbacks really do come at key moments, for example, at moments of very high tension during fights. Nevertheless, these flashbacks remain interesting, as they allow us to learn more about the motivations of certain characters, and why some of them chose to become demons.

On the other hand, if you're new to the world of Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) through this film, you may be lost at first.
If you're going to see it with people who know the work, don't hesitate to ask them to brief you. Alternatively, you can watch the video below in which Crunchyroll gives you a quick recap of the story. Of course, it won't make up for the hours you've spent reading the manga or watching the anime, but at least you'll have some context, which will help you better appreciate the film.
