Which games are nominated for GOTY 2025? The question is already stirring up the community as preparations get underway for the eleventh edition of The Game Awards, scheduled for the night of December 11, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Broadcast live on Twitch, YouTube, and, for the first time, Prime Video, the ceremony will honor the year's most notable productions while unveiling a number of highly anticipated announcements. Before revealing the big winner, the organizers have finally unveiled the official list of nominees, kicking off the video game awards season.
Once again this year, the most popular category remains GOTY 2025 ("Game of the Year"). Without further ado, here are the games selected for the title of best game of 2025:
One of these six contenders will be crowned the successor to the 2024 winner,Astro Bot. This edition is all about diversity, with productions combining action, storytelling, adventure, and exploration, from both independent studios and major publishers. It's worth noting that the highly anticipated Clair Obscur Expedition 33 dominates the nominations with a remarkable total of nine selections, a figure that rises to twelve if we include the individual awards for "Best Performance." Death Stranding 2, the latest creation from Hideo Kojima, follows closely behind with seven nominations, while Hades 2 leads in six categories thanks to its highly acclaimed return to the rogue-like scene.
Note that in addition to the best game of the year, other software will be recognized in other categories: "best action game," "best multiplayer game," "best VR/AR game," "best simulation/strategy game," "best role-playing game," "best indie game," "best fighting game," and "best eSports game." And on the games side, Battlefield 6, Ghost of Yōtei, Silent Hill f, Blue Prince, Star Wars Outlaws, Jurassic World Evolution 3, and Tempest Rising, to name a few.
Voting is now open, allowing everyone to support their favorite games in the many categories on offer. The results will be announced at the ceremony on December 11, 2025, which promises to be one of the major events of the end of the year for gamers and industry professionals alike.
