After winning over PC players in June 2025, Dune: Awakening is headed to consoles, launching on September 22, 2026, with a simultaneous release on PS5 and Xbox Series. The open‑world survival title from Funcom will use the console launch to roll out a solo mode, wrap up its narrative, add new content, and introduce tougher difficulty options. It will also join Xbox Game Pass on day one, while the Deluxe and Ultimate editions will grant access to Arrakis five days early, on September 17.
On the desert world of Arrakis, players navigate a harsh landscape, manage their resources, forge alliances, and steadily expand their influence. Each game kicks off with limited means, as water, sandstorms, colossal sandworms, and inter-faction rivalries mount the threats.
"This is your Dune. A Dune where Paul Atreides was never born and where a terrible war of assassins rages between Atreides and Harkonnen. Where the machinations of the guilds and the Great Houses devour as many unfortunates as the old sand worms that roam the desert. In a world you'll share with hundreds of other players, will you manage to rule a Great House and take control of the spice? Your journey begins here, in the desert. Find the Fremen and awaken the sleeper".
Dune: Awakening takes the shape of a sprawling sandbox where progression remains open-ended. Upon arriving on Arrakis, players must find water, shield themselves from the heat, and craft their first gear. They can then learn a variety of skills from mentors, without being constrained by a predefined class system.
Progression also draws players into political intrigue, contracts, guilds, and conflicts between rival factions. Players can cooperate to build bases or engage in PvP battles. Yet the environment remains central: storms regularly reshape parts of the desert, while sandworms force constant vigilance of every move.
On the occasion of Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Funcom announced that Dune: Awakening will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series on September 22, 2026. The Deluxe and Ultimate editions will grant five days of early access, starting September 17.
This release will bring together all the improvements made to the PC version since launch. It will also add a single-player mode, an ending to the narrative, additional content, and new options to fine-tune the difficulty. A physical PS5 edition will go on sale the same day, alongside the digital versions. In Japan, both the physical and digital releases are set for October 29, 2026.
On Xbox Series, Dune: Awakening will join Xbox Game Pass starting September 22, 2026. Funcom has also confirmed that cross-play between PC and consoles will arrive shortly after launch. No exact date has yet been announced for this feature.
Funcom has released a seven-minute clip showcasing Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5 Pro. The footage offers a look at the visuals, mechanics, and performance of the console version.
On the PS5 and PS5 Pro, Performance mode targets 60 FPS with dynamic resolution. Quality mode runs at 30 FPS on both models. In both configurations, the display relies on a 4K resolution that’s upscaled.
Gamescom attendees can also try the PS5 version on site. The demo highlights how the controls and the interface have been tailored for the DualSense controller.
The console launch will be accompanied by Filmic Archive, a DLC arriving on September 22, 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series at a price of €9.99. This add-on will introduce several outfits inspired by Denis Villeneuve's films Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two.
The DLC will include, among other things, the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armor, seen in Paul Atreides’s visions of the holy war, as well as the Caladan Stormcoat, worn by Paul and Duke Leto. It will also introduce new Sardaukar armor and a 73-piece construction kit designed to customize bases in the style of this imperial army.
Inspired by Frank Herbert’s novel and the film adaptations from Legendary Entertainment, Dune: Awakening will expand its universe to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in September 2026. With solo content, a Game Pass launch, additional customization options, and cross-play planned after launch, this console edition is set to bring a new wave of players to the deserts of Arrakis.
