Prepare your oxygen bottles and your courage! A few years after the frigid exploration of Below Zero, the studio Unknown Worlds is poised to plunge players back into the depths with Subnautica 2, starting May 14, 2026. Long awaited by survival fans, this official new installment promises to push us even further, to a brand-new alien planet teeming with mysteries, bioluminescent creatures, and, of course, predators lurking in the shadows.
If the earlier installments felt like pure solitary experiences — which, incidentally, was half the thrill and the dread of exploration — Subnautica 2 flips the script by adding a community-driven feature that players have been clamoring for years: an online co-op mode for up to four players. You’ll now be able to build underwater bases, pilot your recon vehicles, and map the ocean floor as a team.
For purists, rest easy: the studio has already confirmed that the game is designed first and foremost as a narrative experience, and the adventure will be fully playable solo for those who prefer to face the fright on their own. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the title showcases the underwater flora and fauna with dramatic lighting and a sense of depth.
Exploring this new planet lets you discover new biomes, study cutting-edge technologies, and uncover the secrets of a storyline that promises to be more immersive than ever. Like the original, Subnautica 2 will begin with an Early Access phase (Early Access). That means the first players will be beta-testing an incomplete build, potentially with some bugs, an unfinished narrative, and large portions of the map still off-limits.
So, ready to dive into the depths?
