Pierre Cardin now has his own commemorative plaque in Paris. Erected on the very site of his iconic boutique in the 8th arrondissement, the solemn "sign" pays tribute to the extraordinary destiny of the couturier who changed the face of fashion.

Following in the footsteps of Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel and Azzedine Alaïa, the City of Paris unveiled a commemorative plaque in tribute to Pierre Cardin on March 6, 2023. Find it at the corner of rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and avenue de Marigny, overlooking the iconic boutique that has just reopened its doors.

Attention worthy of the couturier's exceptional history, who left his mark on many aspects of the Parisian scene (fashion, gastronomy, theater, ...). After stints at Paquin and Dior, the Italian-born couturier founded his own Couture House in 1950, presenting his first collection 3 years later. In the 60s, he diversified, launching men's and children's lines. 1963 was to be a pivotal year. Pierre Cardin took up the challenge of democratizing Haute Couture and, above all, invented Prêt-à-Porter, as well as the principle of licensing. Until his death at the end of 2020, the designer continued to experiment, pushing back the boundaries of couture. His legacy to the fashion world is his avant-garde signature, stylized by geometric shapes and new synthetic materials.

The plaque also stands on the very spot where the Fall-Winter 2023-2024 collection show took place on March 5, 2023, under the artistic direction of Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, the couturier's nephew. The show marked Pierre Cardin's return to the official Paris Fashion Week calendar. For this reappearance, Rodrigo injected a contemporary dimension into the label, focusing on a more eco-responsible approach (recycling, dormant stocks, synthetic materials).
