If Chartreuse is making a comeback in Paris today, it's a genuine return to its origins.
As early as 1257, Carthusian monks settled in Paris at the invitation of King Louis IX, and founded the Chartreuse de Vauvert on land that corresponds to today’s Luxembourg Garden. For more than five centuries, until the French Revolution, the monastery remained active and deeply embedded in Parisian life.
It is in Paris that the Carthusians developed their botanical knowledge, refined their herbal practice, and that, as early as 1605, the first elixir based on a formula of 130 medicinal and aromatic plants was created.
The Chartreuse space in Paris today marks the continuation of this story, ideally located in Paris (6th arrondissement), at the crossroads of the capital’s iconic districts: Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Odéon, Saint-Michel...
