La Trésorerie in Paris: tableware, décor and clever finds in a former treasury building

Once, people came here to settle their accounts. Today, they’re more likely to find something they love for their home! Housed in a former treasury in Paris’s 10th arrondissement, La Trésorerie gives the old-fashioned hardware store a modern makeover, with beautiful tableware, household linens, utensils and decorative objects made to last.

A beautiful tea towel, a wooden brush, a well-designed carafe… In Paris, home decor shops don’t all focus on designer furniture or the latest trends. Some have realized that even the most ordinary objects can have style. La Trésorerie, at 11 rue du Château-d'Eau in the 10th arrondissement, makes a specialty of the art of everyday living, with a selection that could almost make you enjoy doing housework.

Opened in 2014, the store occupies the former premises of the main Treasury office in Paris’s 10th arrondissement, from which it takes its name. Inside, the concept evokes the spirit of old-fashioned housewares stores and general stores—shops where you could find everything you needed to furnish your home. Tableware, linens, kitchen utensils, storage accessories and cleaning products are selected for their usefulness, aesthetics and materials. Wood, glass, metal and natural fibers feature prominently, with a focus on European makers and craftsmanship.

What makes La Trésorerie appealing is precisely its ability to make desirable the kinds of objects people don’t usually give much thought to. You can come here to outfit a kitchen, refresh your home linens or look for a practical gift without ending up with a gimmick. The overall aesthetic is understated and warm, focused more on materials and function than on fashion trends.

And for those looking to decorate on a larger scale, La Trésorerie has a second store just across the street, at 8 rue du Château-d'Eau. Named Suite, it spans 150 m² and offers a selection of furniture, lighting and decorative objects from European manufacturers. A third location, on a smaller scale, has also opened at 48 rue de Grenelle, in the 7th arrondissement, covering 130 m².

A great way to discover more sustainable shopping in Paris, where the pleasure of buying also comes from choosing things you’ll use for years to come.
