In the 19th arrondissement of Paris, the Pailleron Space is a versatile sports complex offering more than just a comprehensive range of activities. Along with an year-round ice rink, it features a surprising swimming pool that delights swimming enthusiasts. Opened in 1933, the Piscine Pailleron is named after Edouard Pailleron, a French playwright and poet.
Here, you'll find facilities suitable for all ages and skill levels. In addition to its main 33-meter pool, there's a play pool equipped with water jets and interactive water features for children, as well as a fitness area and a sun deck, ideal for soaking up the sun during the warmer months.
One of the most striking features of the Pailleron swimming pool is its architecture, which takes us back to the 1930s with its distinctive Art Deco style. This space, designed by architect Lucien Pollet, showcases a vast glass roof supported by an iron framework that floods the area with natural light. Inside the entrance hall, visitors can admire the original ceramic tiles and vibrant mosaics that add to its historic charm.
Did you know? The Pailleron Pool was saved from demolition in 1998 thanks to a grassroots movement of citizens determined to preserve its architectural and cultural heritage. In fact, it was also designated as a Historic Monument at the same time! After being rehabilitated, it reopened in 2006, successfully blending its historic charm with modern facilities for sports and leisure activities.
