Looking for a great musical getaway in the Hauts-de-Seine? The 56th edition of the Festival de l'Orangerie de Sceaux is sure to please. From September 13 to October 12, 2025, this not-to-be-missed event for lovers of chamber music will once again take over the sumptuous Domaine Départemental de Sceaux.
Founded in 1969 by violinist Alfred Loewenguth, this festival is unique in that it takes place in an exceptional setting. TheBaroque Orangerie, built in 1686 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the Sun King's architect, has just undergone a major renovation, restoring it to its former glory. The acoustics of this historic venue, with its red and gold chairs under the high vaulted ceiling, are ideal for small musical groups.
Under the artistic direction of Jean-François Heisser since 2014, the festival has retained its signature spirit of openness and discovery. Over 600,000 spectators have already attended concerts since its inception, which speaks volumes for the quality of the programming and the public's attachment to the event.
For this 2025 edition, the program spans four jam-packed weekends. The event kicks off on September 13 at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church with the Quatuor Présages. These four singers, strong personalities on the French scene, join forces with composer Diana Soh for a program that draws on traditional European songs. Their interpretation of "Dragana" (traditional Bulgarian) or "Bella ci dormi" (traditional Sicilian), interspersed with texts by Clara Ysé, promises an opening evening full of discoveries.
The following weekends (September 20-21, September 25-28, October 3-5 and October 9-12) will feature a wide variety of artists. Melvil Chapoutot will be featured on piano in a Mozart program, with pieces such as "Ridente la calma" and "Dans un bois solitaire". The Agate String Quartet, noted in international competitions for their fascination with Brahms, will perform alongside leading clarinettist Patrick Messina. Their program will combine Mozart (String Quartet in D major No. 21) and Brahms (Quintet for clarinet and strings Op. 115).
Simon Lachemet on cello completes this fine line-up of established artists, in a festival that always relies on this skilful blend of young talent and established performers.
For this 2025 edition, we're continuing our tradition of showcasing music in several of the estate's most emblematic venues. TheOrangerie will host concerts from September 28 (4pm except for afternoon concerts), the Grand Salon du Château will offer more intimate evenings, and the park at the Bassin de Pomone will offer open-air concerts in a bucolic setting.
An added bonus: the festival coincides with the European Heritage Days. The perfect opportunity to combine musical discovery and architectural heritage, in the French gardens designed by André Le Nôtre. We appreciate this intelligent program, which allows us to take full advantage of the estate's riches.
On the practical side, the organizers have taken accessibility into account, with prices ranging from 20 to 40 euros, depending on the venue and category. At the Château, a single ticket price of 35 euros (30 euros concessions). At Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, three categories from 15 to 35 euros. In the Orangerie, tickets range from 20 euros (category 3) to 35 euros (carré or). Reduced rates are available for under-26s, jobseekers and members. Children under the age of 12 are also entitled to preferential rates, demonstrating our determination to pass on this passion for music to the very young.
The Domaine de Sceaux is easily accessible from Paris by RER B (Bourg-la-Reine or Sceaux stations). Ideal for a cultural getaway off the beaten Parisian track, in a green setting that invites you to take a stroll before or after the concerts.
This 56th edition of the Festival de l'Orangerie de Sceaux confirms its position as a key player on the Paris region music scene. A blend of tradition and innovation, heritage and creation, the festival continues to win over its loyal audience while attracting new music lovers. A great discovery for all those seeking to combine musical pleasure with an exceptional setting.
