It is a cult album from Cat Power's discography. Thanks to tracks such as "Living Proof," "Where Is My Love," "Love & Communication," and of course the title track, "The Greatest" undeniably made the American singer famous, allowing her to expand her audience, which until then had mainly consisted of folk and indie music fans.
In 2026, Cat Power— the stage name of Chan Marshall — will celebrate the 20th anniversary of her iconic album with a special European tour. To mark the occasion, the Atlanta-born singer and musician plans to visit several German cities, including Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, and Berlin. But she’s also set to make a stop in France with a one-night-only show announced in Paris. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Salle Pleyel. After the initial date sold out, an extra performance has been added for Monday, November 9, 2026. Her tour will also include dates in Strasbourg, Lyon, Toulouse, and Rennes. For each show, she will perform her legendary album in its entirety.
If you're among the many fans of this American artist, good news: ticket sales are already underway for the second date scheduled on November 9, 2026. You can find more details and purchase tickets via the ticketing site.
Released on January 20, 2006, "The Greatest" remains the artist's best-selling album to date. To produce "The Greatest," Cat Power teamed up with Mabon " Teenie " Hodges. Al Green's guitarist and songwriter, he plays guitar on the entire album. Other musicians who participated in "The Greatest" include Leroy "Flick" Hodges, Tennie's brother and former bandmate in the Hi Rhythm band, as well as drummer Steve Potts and other renowned musicians from Memphis.
And success was not long in coming, as the album ranked 34th on the Billboard 200. "The Greatest" also won the 2006 Shortlist Music Prize, making Chan Marshall the first female artist to receive this distinction. It must be said that the album reveals a delicious mix of Memphis-style brass, funky string arrangements, and smooth backing vocals.
Two decades on, this album by Cat Power still stands as a sonic masterpiece. The American singer-songwriter plans to mark the occasion by performing the entire record live during her European tour in the fall of 2026. To experience this special moment in person, mark your calendars for October 31 and November 9, 2026, at the Salle Pleyel.
