After welcoming the MoMA, the Fondation Louis Vuitton gives an overview of 25 contemporary artists alongside the greatest artists from the 20th century, to highlight artists’ demiurge role through time and space. Giacometti, Picasso, Matisse, Klein face Cyprien Gaillard, Wilhelm Sasnal and Adrián Villar Rojas, what a delight!
From April 11 to August 27, 2018, this hanging, “In Tune with the World” will excite senses with major works that have never been exhibited in this place. In a way, these works have all been designed as alerts to Men, highlighting interconnections between humans, animals, plants and minerals.

In the section “The Man who capsizes”, we find representations of the body in all its forms. Starting point of the section, sculptures by Giacometti including The Man who capsizes (1950-1951), Three men walking (1948), Bust of a Man sitting (Lotar III) (1965), Tall Woman II (1960), and Woman from Venice III (1956-1957). Around these bodies, anthropomorphic or appearance-like sculptures: Maurizio Cattelan appears in a portrait in latex (Spermini, 1997), Giovanni Anselmo, shows a silhouette absorbed in an infinite landscape in Entrare nell’Opera (1971), Yves Klein refers the human presence to the body print, “living brushes” on the sheet ANT 104 (1960).
In the section Here Infinitely, three artists question the place of Men in History and its will to dominate the world surrounding them. The sculpture Untitled, From the series Theater of Disappearance (Adrián Villar Rojas, 2017) leads one to imagine the fate of Michelangelo’s David in a post-apocalyptic world.
In the Irradiances section, we find a continuous dialog with nature and exploring the different materials and their metamorphoses. Water Cast 6 (2015) by Matthew Barney tells about the explosive result of mixing molten bronze and water, which produces a set of abstract organic forms reminiscent of the subtleties of fine jewelry.
For Christian Boltanski, in Animitas (2014) “the music of the stars and the voice of floating souls” reflects in an installation with Japanese bells dialoguing with the Atacama Desert in Chile. Another research, Untitled (2008), by Trisha Donnelly, where a magnetic wave springs from the heart of a perfectly-contoured rose.
And at the same time as the exhibition, the Fondation Louis Vuitton offers a focus on Takashi Murakami, an artist who returns on the traumas of his country without a Kawaii aesthetic saturated with colors and populated by fantastic creatures.
