Cité de l'Économie - Citéco: a fun, educational museum at the heart of the economy

At the heart of the Hôtel Gaillard, a neo-renaissance masterpiece listed as a historic monument and former Banque de France building, lies an educational museum focusing on economic concepts: Citéco, a must-see for the whole family!

Housed in a former Banque de France branch next to the Parc Monceau, the Cité de l'Économie has decided to leave the vestiges of its past visible, including a vault, the director's office and the controller's office in the superb Hôtel Gaillard, a neo-Gothic architectural ensemble built in 1882, inspired by the ornamentation of the Château de Blois.

In Europe's first museum dedicated to economic concepts, young and old alike can make sense of society's major debates through playful temporary exhibits and an accessible permanent tour, which easily illustrate sometimes difficult concepts. As soon as you enter, a short film introduces you to the major economic issues: production, consumption, exchange and money, which affect us all on a daily basis.

All audiences are welcome, thanks to thematic areas that enable better understanding through play. Created only in 2019, Citéco is developing the same pedagogy as at the Cité des Sciences, to make the economy accessible to all and interactive, from its genesis to its impact on our society today, from financial markets to monetary policies, via the notions of scarcity and choice.

A true mediator for the public, the museum clarifies economic concepts by showing their impact on everyday life, and helps enrich the economic culture of Parisians with concrete tools. All year round, Citéco offers conferences and debates in its auditorium, educational workshops and cinema afternoons based on the season's theme.

The museum is open every day except Monday from 2pm to 6pm, but you can enjoy a freenocturne every first Thursday of the month. To visit the museum at your leisure, book your tickets in advance: the full price is 12 euros. To get to the museum, take metro line 3 to Malesherbes or line 2 to Monceau.
